From experience in Glasgow City Council’s City Centre development control team John advises clients in achieving listed building and conservation area consents. With the Council he was responsible for negotiating consents for major city-centre development projects involving listed buildings such as the Central Station regeneration project, redevelopment of the post office building in George Square, and townhouse conversions in Park Circus. Since joining the private sector, John has achieved planning consent for significant buildings in and around the Central Conservation Area including “Elphinstone Tower”, Argyle International”, and “Staybridge Hotel”. The latter two involved achieving listing building consents for demolition and façade retention, and demolition of buildings in the Conservation Area. In conjunction with a landscape architect, he prepared an appraisal of Busby Conservation Area.
